I really liked this Set. The Fresh clean Face of Freckles, the awkward scrunch of the cushion, make the first photo (Avangeline) evoke a sleep that is so delicate. One wrong move and the balance will be disturbed and she will wake. The band on the right hand also really caught my eye. It’s as if it is really squeezing her right hand. This carried over to the Handcuff on the left hand of April in the Tub. So Still and yet you could still feel that she had life. The still water above her right arm is so smooth and yet she still looks ready to leap out. Princess-L laying on the bed with the Orchids (?) has such an array of edges, curves, and dimples. Her skin seems to change each time i look at the photo. I vacillate between 2 polar opposite stories of what “Sleep” she represents. The Final shot is a little jarring. Not just the String, or that the model is not the usual type, For me it’s the brick wall. It is as if the wall is pushing in on her. Because of my distraction of the setting and the odd photo on the bed, i cannot see the Sleep there. It is probably just my own hangup.
They are beautiful photos and i always enjoy looking at your work.

  3. The final picture in the sequence depicts a voluptuous ethnic nude lying with a handout portrait of romantic fatalist Leonard Cohen, one of the great authors of romantic desire who’s able to access the complexity of those sentiments in all their ambivalent grandeur.

  4. LLM: I benefit from your close readings; and specifically that connection you made between the band and the handcuff. You made me aware yet again of the intelligence that lies somewhere in the unconscious well.
